A Last Hurrah/ Thank You!
in collaboration w/senseofplace LAB
November 20th, 2015
In collaboration with senseofplace Lab's exhibition "a commemoration in several parts; an investigation into a relationship of a place (SURPLUS)." Michael Reinsch, Cathy Cleaver, Eli Coplan, and Avery Gilbert activated Surplus for our final closing/goodbye. Michael Reinsch will be performing a tar and feathering outdoors, Cathy Cleaver activated the kitchen in recognition of domestic repetition, Avery Gilbert II's sound-based performance explored boundaries in relation to the body in the black box, and Eli Coplan explored event documentation and circuits of memory in the Parlor. Our Resident Contractor, Jerry Gilmer, created a take-away of the renovation process he led in making the house again habitable.

Avery Gilbert II
Black box
A performance including real time audio/vocal looping, intricately layered guitar textures, varying percussive inter-lay via the material of metal, and use of the body.
Avery Gilbert II, who performs under the moniker ADOS 33, was born in Dallas Tx, and raised in Los Angeles, Ca, where he studied film and music video under Alan Calzatti. He began playing music at the age of 7 with piano first, and then guitar at 13.
In Los Angeles, Gilbert II spent most of his time filming rock bands, playing music shows, organizing in POC communities, and doing homeless activist work with varying organizations.
Gilbert II arrived in Portland in 2010. In that time, he was just 20 years old. Now at 25, he's in a different state of being and so is Portland... Over the span of living in Portland, Gilbert II has worked as an educator in various child centers, high schools, a detention center, and elementary schools. Gilbert II isn't looking to just start conversations; he's looking to create formulaic conclusions and solutions to his own internal problems and to the external world with his sonic and literary explorations, as well as charge physical space in real time.

The Joke is on me.
Michael Reinsch
Outdoors
For "The Joke Is On Me" Performance artist Michael Reinsch will be generating a nonsense poem from jokes taken from all levels of appropriateness as he tars and feathers himself to Sousa marches while dressed as a rubber chicken.
A one man mob meting out his own punishment he is his own worst critic, especially considering the current political climate.
If he has to explain it the joke is ruined.
